Chapter 19 n Deploying Applications Over the Air 9 in more detail in the next chapter, but for the stand-alone app catalog vendors, let’s take a deeper look at a leading product from a company called Apperian, already mentioned in this chapter. Apperian’s offering (Figure 19-3) consists of a cloud-based app server that provides a web-based administration portal as well as private database and Active Directory proxy that can authenticate users for access to internal apps and facilitate Single Sign-On (SSO) capabilities within the custom apps themselves. Apperian also includes an iOS app template that can be customized to include a company’s own brand and then dynamically serves up apps and updates as managed by the app server. The Apperian SDK allows in-house app developers to easily manage app versioning and updates, as well as track usage analytics and authenticate centrally through the same app server mechanism.
